As a freshman in college at Rutgers University, my family and I experienced the devastation caused by substance use disorder when both of my parents tragically lost their lives to prescription drug overdoses within hours of each other. With little education regarding SUD, it came as a complete shock and left us with so many questions of how this could happen right in front of us with only a few subtle warning signs. After years of navigating the shame associated with the stigma of addiction, I began to uncover the need for education and awareness and believe it’s critical to bring our communities together to provide prevention resources and hope to those seeking help from this gripping disease.“ - Lauren Sisler
